Hollywood City Manager Proposes Redevelopment Program For Professional Athletes and Entertainers
City Commission to Consider Proposal on Wednesday, March 16, 2011
City Manager Cameron D. Benson is proposing a program to spark interest from economically qualified investors within the sports a
“I’ve met with a number of professional athletes who have the financial means to invest in our City and are just looking for the right opportunity,” says Mr. Benson. “This program would encourage and support their interest by streamlining the redevelopment process and giving them real concepts for projects the City wants.”
The Professional Sports and Entertainment Enterprise Program (PSEEP) would promote public-private partnerships to revitalize key parcels within the City. Currently, the City of Hollywood and Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency own 331 properties of which 50 are vacant and numerous others are primed for redevelopment. The PSEEP would provide preferred negotiations and incentives for development and redevelopment of underutilized properties for qualified professional athletes or entertainers and/or professional sports or entertainment organizations.
Interested parties would apply to be part of the program and once approved would be offered opportunities to negotiate for approved redevelopment projects on targeted City and CRA owned properties. The City Commission will consider the proposal at its regular meeting on Wednesday, March 16th at 2:30 p.m. Current and former National Football League players and the president of the Retired Players Association will be in attendance.
