City of Hollywood

A Message From Our Mayor

From its founding, Hollywood was billed as a City for “making a living and living while making it,” where “music and almost every conceivable form of outdoor pleasure and recreation” provided a “backdrop for busy days.”  This inviting picture attracted investors in the1920’s and remains one of Hollywood’s greatest draws today. The City’s 29 square miles include dozens of parks, miles of blue wave certified clean beaches, Florida’s only oceanfront boardwalk, numerous golf courses, world class resorts and restaurants and more than 1,500 acres of native mangrove forests and marshes.

For commerce, Hollywood has the ideal location nestled between Fort Lauderdale and Miami with easy access to international airports and one of the world’s busiest seaports—Port Everglades—in its borders.   While our nation’s economy continues to struggle, the City is working to provide small businesses assistance and resources during this difficult period.  As your Mayor and a business owner myself, I know the success of our business community is necessary for the success of our City as a whole.

While there have been challenges, we have also seen successes.  Plans for a new Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville resort complex are moving ahead on Hollywood Beach, the City’s largest employer, Memorial Healthcare Systems, is constructing a new state-of-the-art Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and Royal Caribbean brought the first of its new Genesis class cruise ships, Oasis of the Seas, to a beautiful new cruise terminal built at Port Everglades in Hollywood.  Our business community embraced the City’s new recycling rewards program, RecycleBank, with tremendous enthusiasm and participation.

I hope you will join me in looking forward to the coming year as one of significant opportunity.  We are fortunate to have an engaged and energized business community and a strong and growing Chamber of Commerce.  Let’s continue working together to create positive change and a productive business environment in our City.
